The 2026 DFW-ABA Scholarship Application deadline has been extended to August 9, giving eligible students additional time to apply. Members and community partners can help by sharing this opportunity with students who demonstrate academic commitment, leadership, and community involvement.
We are also seeking volunteers to review scholarship applications. A brief virtual training will be held on August 19 at 6:00 PM CT, and a recording will be available for those unable to attend live. Help us identify and support the next generation of leaders by sharing the application or serving as a reviewer.

Your Leadership Could Shape What Comes Next | | 🗳️ The next chapter of DFW-ABA leadership begins soon. Our 2026 Board Election Season is officially underway, and the nomination window will open on August 10.
This is an opportunity for members who are ready to serve, contribute, and help shape the future of DFW-ABA to step forward. Self-nominations are welcome, and members may also nominate someone they believe would be a strong addition to the board, with that individual’s confirmation of willingness to serve.
The nomination link will go live on August 10 and will be sent directly to all members.
Leadership begins with a willingness to serve. We look forward to seeing who is ready to help write DFW-ABA’s next chapter.

| Our Back-to-School event wa_s a tremendous success, serving approximately 40 families with backpacks, school supplies, and encouragement for the year ahead. We are grateful to everyone who distributed supplies, welcomed and encouraged students and families, and served on our parking lot crew, which helped connect families who were unaware of the event with the available resources.
A special thank-you goes to our Community Affairs team for leading this effort, TPG for providing breakfast for participating families, and 3 Leaf Literacy Leadership & Learning Institute for donating backpacks and supply packs. We look forward to partnering with the MLK Community Center again next year! |

đź‘‹Meet-a-Member: Dr. Nicholas Mitchell | | Can you share a little about your professional background and what brought you to the DFW-ABA?
I began my career as an auditor with KPMG’s Federal Services practice in Washington, DC. After seven years, I returned closer to my New Orleans roots to pursue a PhD in accounting at Louisiana State University. In fall 2024, I joined the University of Texas at Arlington, where I also became faculty advisor for UTA’s NABA chapter.
If you could choose any superpower to help you in your career, what would it be, and why?
Teleportation. I could avoid traffic, make it to class and conferences on time, and never get stuck at an airport. I could even wake up in Cancun, teach my class in Arlington, and return to the beach afterward.
What’s a memorable or funny experience you’ve had as a DFW-ABA member so far?
Shortly after moving to the area, I was “voluntold” to speak at the 2024 Student Symposium about expectations for interns and new hires. Seeing students learn, network, and receive scholarships made the experience especially meaningful. It is now an event I look forward to each year.
Outside of work, what are some hobbies or activities that bring you joy?
I enjoy going to the movies, playing video games, and watching professional wrestling. I regularly bring my wife along when the major wrestling promotions come to town, which happens often because Dallas is such a big wrestling city.
How would your friends describe you in three words?
Smart, funny, and great-at-cooking, which counts as one word if you hyphenate confidently! I especially enjoy preparing New Orleans favorites such as gumbo, shrimp Creole, and crawfish étouffée.
